Based on the theories of observational learning, we know that humans learn a great deal by watching others, and because of our mirror neuron system, we're literally hard wired to do so. T.V. and other media have been of interest to social scientist who wonder what effect watching violent programming, or playing violent video games, has on behavior, particularly for children. Bandura's research suggests that we're much more likely to model violent behavior when the perpetrator is rewarded for that behavior. The difficulty in studying this is that it's mostly correlational research, so we can't infer cause and effect.
