INTRODUCTION
The CV-19 pandemic accelerated company trends in allowing varying schedules and environments. As people returned to workplaces, many experimented with offering staff the choice between 5 - 8-hour day and 4 - 10-hour day schedules. The length of the day can play into staff productivity and efficiency. Additionally, allowing staff an extra day off can provide time to reset, leading to more focused efforts while at work. Management must determine if the difference directly affects staff performance before continuing to allow varying schedules.
STATEMENT
The study's purpose is to figure out the effects on productivity of allowing employees to choose between a 5 - 8-hour and 4 - 10-hour day schedule.
DISCUSSION & SCOPE
The study focused on the potential change in workplace productivity when individuals are presented with the possibility of working either a four- or five-day forty hour perweek schedule. For the purpose of this study, the same work centers encompassing the same individuals were utilized to ensure no change in variables impacted the data collection. The data itself represents those same individuals' on-shift contributions while working these two differing schedules. This data shows the differing production levels while looking at the two varying schedules.
Research Question. Does giving employees the ability to choose between a 10/80 or 9/80 work schedule improve productivity?
Alternative Question (VM): What are the effects of changing a work schedule from 10/80 to 9/80? Do the changes increase productivity among workers?
Hypothesis: Allowing employees to choose between a 10/80 or 9/80 schedule has a negative impact on productivity.
Alternative Hypothesis (VM): The transition from a 10/80 to a 9/80 work week will negatively impact the work and productivity of the company.
REVIEW OF DATA
In reviewing the data for this report, there was much data that was very insightful. However, before we begin to analyze the information, we must first have basic understanding of the meaning of our values. Our predictor variable is the variable used to predict our outcome. In this case, our predictor variable is our input, x, or the 10/80 or 9/80 work schedule. Our outcome variable predicted variable, also known as the y variable. The outcome variable in the report is the productivity and effectiveness of the different work schedules. In the analysis of our report, we have selected a regression analysis to review the collected data set.
In the process of conducting this research, we first gathered details on the topic. We discussed the topic, as it became more relevant throughout COVID-19. We then gathered data from documented production hours for ten departments working different schedules. Through this, we were able to pull our predictor variable. We then ran our regression analysis and determined our predicted variable, also known as our outcome variable. Subsequently, we went on to create our pivot charts and bar graphs to depict the answer to our research question and hypothesis.
