Before Julia left Singapore on a two-week business trip to France, she made the following promises:
(i) To pay her neighbour $1,000 if she would feed her fishes two meals a day during her two-week absence; and
(ii) To pay the policeman patrolling her neighbourhood $1000 if he would keep an eye on her bungalow during her two-week absence.
Although Julia's neighbour fed her fishes two meals a day and the policeman kept a good watch on her bungalow, Julia refuses to pay then as promised when she returned from her trip. She argued that they were only doing what they are supposed to do as neighbours and policemen.
Advise Julia whether she is bound by the promises.
