This individual assignment requires students to research industries, organizations
and jobs of interests. Next, students attend HRM events OR meet with HRM
professionals. Students are required to complete a minimum combination of two events
or meetings.
The events may be hosted by an academic institution, employer, or professional
association such as the HRPA, CPHR SHRM HRCI. Events may virtual or inperson.
The events may be hosted in Ontario, Canada, or internationally. Each student will
select their own events to attend. The events must be taking place between week one of
the course and before the assignment is due. The event may be specific to human
resources management or general business. If students are unsure of the relevancy of
an event to this assignment they should refer to the professor for approval.
Alternately, each student can connect with industry HRM professionals for telephone
conversations, meetings or virtual meetings to discuss the industry professionals
perspectives on HRM industry trends, and the typical career path and advice on building
a HRM career and network. Students may speak with any HRM professional other than
your professorssomeone they know, work with, or would like to meet. The
professional may be located in Ontario, Canada, or internationally. Students should
arrange for the meeting via telephone, Zoom, or MS Teams and send a meeting invite to
the industry professional.
Finally, students may attend one event and connect with one industry HRM
professional.
