The following process serves as an outline for your successful case analysis reporting: 1. Reread the CA part of your text, paying attention to Preparing a Case for Class Discussion, Participating in a Class Discussion of a Case, and Preparing a Written Case Analysis. 2. Preread the case in a casual manner to get the main point and find your points of interest. 3. Read the case in a detailed manner, taking notes or highlighting important details, concepts, and questions. 4. Make sure you understand the tables and figures in the case. 5. Cases require you to use financial ratios and other commonly available business data. Do dive into the numbers. This is a quantitatively oriented course, and business data tell a story. What story do the data in the case you are working on tell? You must be able to answer that question from the first case to the last, though complete financial analysis comes toward the end. 6. Apply the concepts and tools learned throughout your reading and study to the case. 7. Discuss your ideas among your team and your other classmates. You may cite these conversations as conflicting opinions. Conflicting opinions and your adequate consideration strengthen your argument. Include at least one in each write-up for full credit. 8. You must support your diagnoses and suggested courses of action with reasons specific to the text and/or case and other evidence including financial information. 9. Develop the action plan and your set of recommendations. Research the type of advertising available to small retail stores in your area. From the information on advertising options available in your area, develop an advertising budget and make a recommendation for allocation of the advertising dollars between newspaper, local magazines (if any), television (local network and cable), radio, billboards, internet and direct mail for The Shoppes at Riverside. View the Practice Case. This is a practice case that will be completed in order to prepare you for working on a series of case studies throughout this term. After reviewing the Shoppes at Riverside case, you are to assume the role of an advisory board member of the Downtown Development Corporation (DDC). The DDC has been offered to purchase the Shoppes for \$1. The DDC is a nonprofit organization and this should be considered as you analyze your strategy. Use the prompts below to guide your analysis and case write-up using the methodology learned in the module. - As an advisory board member of a nonprofit organization, discuss how it could be in your best interest to acquire the Shoppes. What changes are needed to make it work? Start with a cash flow summary for 2007 as called for in the case. Assume the date is current as of the current year (2023 when this was first posted). - Assuming the Shoppes were acquired, discuss what changes would be recommended to generate more income from the Shoppes at Riverside to further fund DDC operations. - Most of your participation points come this week via this assignment. This is an opportunity for the instructor to provide detailed, critical, feedback to you on a low stakes assignment that can be leveraged to inform your case analysis and write ups that follow. Don't miss the chance to develop your skills with low point values and detailed feedback. It will pay off for the remainder of the course
