ASSESSMENT TASKS Part A - Chemistry 1) Watch all the videos from the URL links below on Stoichiometry Calculations, Oxidation and Reduction, Balancing Redox Reactions, and Oxidations and Reduction in Metallurgy 2) In your selected groups, you will need to construct a detailed power-point presentation on the above topics which will need to be delivered in class at a scheduled time. Each group will have 15 minutes to deliver their content. An assessment rubric will be used to grade the performance of each group. A copy of this rubric will be provided to each group so that there is a clear understanding of the marking criteria and scheme. 3) The following elements will need to be included in the presentation; Using an unbalanced molecular equation as an example (i.e. not from any of the videos or the same group), use diagrams to describe each of the molecules involved in the reaction/equation and explain why you chose this example (i.e. the importance/applications of the reactants and products) ). b). Balance the molecular equation and use new diagrams to describe each of the molecules. Highlight how the equation has changed. Choose a known mass for the key reactant (i.e. 4.5 grams), and then determine the reactant and product amounts in moles. You will need to use ratios and Avogadro's Number in order to achieve this. All calculation will need to be explained in detail. c). d). Fully describe the meaning of the Oxidation and Reduction process using diagrams. You will need to explain how the Oxidation process is used as an intellectual tool. Clearly explain the Periodic Table in terms of Oxidation State Trends and the importance of this for Oxidation-reduction reactions f). Using a diagram, provide an example of a Redox reaction (i.e. not from any of the videos or other groups) and clearly explain which of the atoms/molecules loose electrons and which gain electrons. Use the periodic table (i.e. oxidation states) to help you with this and ensure that your equation is balanced first. For your chosen redox reaction, present all the half-reactions and clearly identify which atoms/molecules are oxidised and which are reduced. Explain why the charges need to be g). balanced. h). Explain the importance of Oxidation-Reduction for metallurgy using clear examples i) All references must be provided.
