Besides the 1997 robbery encountered by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) in the North Hollywood district of Los Angeles, the 1980 Norco, CA, bank robbery is one of law enforcement's most studied bank robberies. There are many reasons for this, but it is generally because the event was exceptionally well-planned and rehearsed and, due to the extended 25-mile police chase of the suspects, spanned several different jurisdictions, further complicating the investigation.

The robbery resulted in the deaths of three people, the injury of nine other law enforcement personnel, the shooting of 30 police vehicles, and the shooting down of a police helicopter.

To this day, the case is studied for the challenges that can arise in a robbery investigation.
