On 1 April 2021 Marie's employer purchased a car that cost $55,000 and provided it to Marie for her use. Marie is allowed to take the car home at the end of each work day and there is no restriction on her use of the car for private purposes. Marie contributes $65 per month towards the car expenses. By using a log book, Marie determines that from when she started using the car on 1 April 2020 until 31 March 2021 the total kilometres travelled were 45,000 km (18,000 km of these were for business travel). On 12 January, Marie was involved in a car accident and this caused a significant amount of damage to the car. The car repairs cost $2,800 (paid by her car insurer) and the car was off the road for 11 days (from 12 January 2021) while the repairs were being done. Able Appliances incurred the following expenses in relation to the car in the 2020/21 FBT year: Petrol and oil $3,200 Registration $800 Insurance $900 School fees Marie's son is enrolled at Friends' School, and the total fees during the 2021 FBT year were $20,000 per year. This school fees expense was paid entirely by Able Appliances during the same FBT year
