Billy, a 15 years old young boy, was playing a game of indoor cricket at a facility operated by Gordon Sports Centre. In the game, he was suddenly hit in the eye by the ball. He suffered serious injury as a result. Gordon Sports Centre organised the game in which Billy was playing and provided the equipment used by the players. It did not supply helments. There was no warning sign that indoor cricket was dangerous, or that players ran a risk of injury. It maintained that wearing helments was not a common practice in indoor cricket and the risks of the game were obvious. Billy did not have any prior experience in playing indoor cricket, although he regularly played outdoor cricket as part of his school cricket team. Advise Billy whether he would be successful if he sued Gordon Sports Centre in the tort of negligence, and explain the defences that Gordon Sports Centre might raise against the claim.
