Birch plywood I The dry sheer strength (in pounds per square inch) of birch plywood bonded with 4 different resin glues (A, B, C, and D) were compared. The data are below: A 504 499 473 458 B 455 483 476 C 500 502 483 519 538 D 520 511 564 Answer the questions below, without using functions in R such as aov, lm, anova and the like unless otherwise specified. Be sure to show all work.(Note: These data are a subset of data from a larger experiment. In this problem, you will analyze a smaller data set so that there is less computation. You will see the full data set in the birch plywood II problem, and there, you will analyze with R.) A) State in words and clearly-defined symbols the null hypothesis and alternative hypothesis appropriate to this problem. B) State the statistical model underlying an appropriate analysis of these data. Define all symbols used and clearly state all assumptions. C) Compute a ANOVA table for these data, including all relevant sums of squares, mean squares, and degrees of freedom. D) Compute the relevant observed test statistic and the p-value for the test. Use Table D to find an approximate p-value, then give the exact p-value computed using R. E) What do you conclude about the null hypothesis? State your conclusion in the context of the problem.
