Blackburn discusses "some ethical ideas" (birth, death, desire/meaning of life, pleasure, the greatest happiness of the greatest number, freedom from the bad, freedom and paternalism, and rights and natural rights) that often underpin political and ethical considerations. On pp.55-56 we read about the positioning of rules and laws despite the lack of a perfect or principled place to draw a line, such as with the speed limit. The suggestion is that the benefit to public safety outweighs the somewhat arbitrary rule (66 MPH is unlikely to be a significantly more dangerous speed than 64 MPH). Identify another tension in this week's reading and reflect upon it - draw a line to a current debate, if able
