So what dothesenumbers tell you? Again, it's pretty simple. Of the 14.8 million Canadians who voted in 2011, 6.1% voted for the Bloq, 39.6% voted for the Conservatives, and so on.

Now that you've looked at these two charts, it's time to consider a question. Do you think that the percentage of votes received should be reflected in the number of seats that party should have in Parliament? Do you think that a party that wins, say, 35% of the popular vote should win 35% of the seats in the House of Commons? Would you be surprised to learn that this is not the case? The reason is that because of the way First Past the Post works, it's possible for a party to win control of the government even if they don't win a majority of the popular vote.
