Managers are continuously making decisions for example, developing new products, establishing weekly or monthly goals, implementing advertising campaign 5, reassigning employees to different work groups, resolving customer's complaints, or purchasing new tablets for sales representatives. One important suggestion for making better decisions is to tap into the diversity of the work group. Drawing upon the ideas of diverse employees can prove valuable to a manager's decision making. Why? Diverse employees can provide fresh perspectives on issues. They can offer differing interpretations on how a problem is dened and may be more open to trying new ways of doing things. Diverse employees are usually more creative in generating alternative and more flexible in resolving issues. Getting input from diverse souroes increases the likelihood of finding creative and unique solutions. Even though diversity in decision making can be valuable, it has drawbacks. The lack of a common perspective usually means that more time is spent discussing the issues. Communication may be a problem, particularly if language barriers are present. Seeking out diverse opinions can make the decision-making process more complex. confusing. and ambiguous. With multiple perspectives on the decision, it may also be difcult to reach a single agreement or to agree on specic actions. Although these are valid co ncerns, the value of diversity in decision making outweighs the potential disadvantages.
