Bob Brown, an enthusiastic superintendent of schools, and his assistant Jen Sessions took over a suburban school district outside a large urban area in the Southwest. Both were committed to changing the predominant teaching approach from one of directing to one that incorporated more discussing and delegating. For a long time, teachers told students what to do$,$ how to do it$,$ when to do it$,$ and where to do it$.$ Brown and Sessions wanted to replace the existing approach and instead have teachers function more as facilitators by asking questions, discussing issues, and assigning team projects. Bottom line$$have students play a bigger role in taking responsibility for what they were learning.
