parts and were provided with manufactured products directly from their Lloydminster manufacturing plant. The company's strategic focus is customer satisfaction. Hence the decision to purchase the inventory platform in hopes that we could have some improvement, which of course, I understand, but the integrity of inventory is always compromised in the company, and the company is currently having the following issues:

SHORT-TERM ISSUES:

  • Inability to fulfil customers' Orders: The inability to fill customers' orders results in customers being upset, which eventually lowers sales revenues and gradually reduces the profit margin.
  • Operations issue : The Sales and planning team never cared about shipping information; the shipping details were either incomplete or incorrect, delaying the shipment of the products to the customers.
  • Inventory management issue : The business has no idea when or how much inventory is expected, which leads to poor production planning resulting in some distribution Centers excess producing and selling to other centers.
  • Communication issue : There was a failure to use the integrated system. This system was meant to smoothen communication flow amongst staff but instead everyone was using text messages with every text urgent so the team was moving from one issue to another without priortising.
  • Information issue : There was a data dump that included information from all three DCs however no one had taken time to understand how to use this information.

LONG-TERM ISSUES:

  • Inventory planning issue : Because of poor inventory planning processes, the stock that was always coming in and out was left in the WIP area. This crammed the area with goods that needed to be shelved.
  • Customers' preferences : Loyalty was no longer valued today, and customers cared more about price, delivery and value addition. This meant that the company needed to invest in new technologies to keep customers.
  • High Competition : The company was facing significant pressure from rivals in other nations. Items made with injection mould can be produced more rapidly and less expensively in China or India.

The key specific issues identified are:

- Hectic nature of communication between all stakeholders

- Lack of accurate and updated inventory information

- Poor performance in 2019

- Lack of accountability from manufacturing plants

- Issues related to just getting general information

- Stock out problem in Winnipeg warehouse

- Excess number of inventory on hand in Winnipeg warehouse

- Poor customer shipments due to missing or incorrect shipping information

- Difficulty with international shipping
