I also found this article informative...http://www.internationaleconpolicy.com/recent-events/brazilian-trade-policy-standards-and-strategy/

In it, the author contends that Brazil does not even have a trade policy today. Brazil should define a strategy for standard policy integrated with technology policy and increase government participation in standardization. That way, Brazil can transfer more technology and knowledge to domestic companies and improve important sectors having to do with technological innovation and national security.

20% of the earth's oxygen is produced by the Amazon rainforest. Some groups dispute this figure, but no groups dispute that the amount of oxygen produced is substantial. Many people outside Brazil wish for the country to adopt stricter controls and environmental standards to protect the forests.

Given that Brazil is such a closed economy and seemingly has no real trade policy in place, is it possible that the rainforest could become the centerpiece of progressive trade policies adopted in other countries to/against Brazil? In other words, can you see the day when other countries, for example, the USA, would impose tariffs on Brazil's imports or refuse to trade with Brazil until they adopt improved controls around protecting the rainforest?
