Brief task description Use the Clinical Reasoning Cycle (CRC) to guide your clinical reasoning skills and identify one problem/issue for two (2) out of the five (5) laboratory case study patients. You must use the Clinical Reasoning Cycle template provided to complete this assessment. Rationale for assessment task This assessment will build on your increasing ability to think like a nurse by using clinical reasoning to determine the best course of action for the people that you care for. Length Limited to the template provided maximum of four (4) pages per case study plus one page for references. Marks out of/Weighting Assessment marked out of 50 Weighting toward final grade 50% Course Objectives measured 1.Apply critical thinking and clinical reasoning skills in the assessment, planning, management, evaluation, and education of individuals experiencing renal, gastrointestinal, integumentary, reproductive, and neurological dysfunction using a culturally safe, person-centred approach, and for the end of life, palliative care and cancer individuals.
  1. Apply psychomotor clinical skills learnt in the simulated environment using a variety of case studies.
  2. Communicate proficiently and in a professional manner as a member of the interdisciplinary health care team.
  3. Recognise and respond to the deteriorating patient in the simulated clinical environment.
Task Information What you must do. Task details
  • You have been provided with a Clinical Reasoning Cycle (CRC) template under Clinical Skills Assessment 1. The template is in a format that allows you to complete the CRC template online. To add an extra page for references, click outside the template at the bottom of the box and click enter. A blank page will appear. Type your references here.
  • Choose two (2) patients from the case studies
  • For each patient, work your way through the CRC steps:
    • STEP 1 - Consider the patient situation (dot point)
    • STEP 2 - Collect cues/information (dot point)
    • STEP 3 - Process the information (dot point or sentence)
    • STEP 4 - Identify ONE (1) problem/issue that you believe is a priority during this admission and work through STEPS 5-7 for this ONE (1) problem/issue. (sentence)
    • STEP 5 - Establishing goals (sentence)
    • STEP 6 - Take action (dot point)
    • STEP 7 - Evaluate outcomes (sentence)
    • STEP 8 - Reflect on the process and new learning (sentence)
  • NB: more information on each step can be found at the bottom of the CRC Template on StudyDesk.
    • You will use one CRC template for each patient you have chosen. Thus, you will have one (1) template per patient.
    • You may use dot point on the CRC template only as indicated above.
    • You are required to use a minimum of four (4) references per patient, made up of a minimum of three (3) references to support your chosen actions and one (1) reference when reflecting on your learning. You will thus have a minimum total of eight (8) reference sources in your reference list. You must adhere to APA7 formatting guidelines.
    • You may use first person throughout this assessment.
Writing & formatting requirements This assessment will be written on the template provided. You may use first person when filling out the template. You may use dot point only where it is indicated with the Steps. Font: 12 point, Times New Roman Referencing and citations
  • For this assessment you will use APA 7th edition referencing style.
  • In text citations: You must include a minimum four references per patient made up of three (3) intext citations in the Take Action section and a minimum of one (1) intext citation in the Reflection/New Learning section. NB: FOR EACH PATIENT.
  • Each new point or piece of evidence must be attributed (via in-text citation) to the source. Remember each intext reference only covers the one point it is attached to.
