Burowski ran an office supply business, and donated one evening a week of her time helping run a bingo for charity. There, she met another donor, Adams, an investment banker. They worked well together for a few months. One evening, Burowski said to Adams that she was confused about her investment portfolio; she wondered where she might get some advice. Adams suggested that they have coffee together after the bingo hall closed. They spent about an hour discussing Burowski's portfolio, and Adams made some suggestions about how she might improve her holdings.
