Question:
BUS 240 Business Analysis Project: Movie Theater Releases
Details
The movie industry is a competitive business. More than fifty studios produce hundreds of new movies for theater release each year, and the financial success of each movie varies considerably. The opening weekend gross sales (millions), the total gross sales (millions), the number of theaters the movie was shown in, and the number of weeks the movie was in release are common variables used to measure the success of a movie.
Use the numerical methods of descriptive statistics to learn how these variables contribute to the success of a movie.
Instructions
Import the data accessible on Blackboard under the "Business Analysis Project Data
and Instructions" tab to MS Excel.
Prepare descriptive statistics for each of the four variables: (1) opening weekend gross sales; (2) total gross sales; (3) number of theaters; and (4) weeks in release. Include in a separate tab on the worksheet.
Discuss what the descriptive statistics tell you about the movie industry. Include the descriptive analyses in a separate tab on the worksheet.
Discuss the relationship between total gross sales and each of the other variables. Include discussion in a separate tab on the worksheet.
Discuss which movies, if any, should be considered high-performance outliers. Include discussion in a separate tab on the worksheet.
Upload the entire MS Excel file to Blackboard under the "Business Analysis Project" tab. Note that the project is due on Sun., May 8th at 11:59 PM.
Good luck!
