Student 1:

"The PowerPoint presentation posed the question: Is Gutenbergs contribution to technology in the same realm as Steve Jobs' or Bill Gates'? I would answer yes, absolutely. The personal computers popularized by Apple and Microsoft allowed easy access and mass distribution of ideas. In the same fashion, the printing press allowed written communication to be available to the masses. It was the first printing technology of its kind and ultimately served as an enigma to the Prostestant Revolution.

The second video focused on the factors that led to the Industrial Revolution. The mix of country side and city made England the perfect location for the Revolution to occur. After small farmers got priced out of their land, they moved to the cities. This phenomenon is known as urbanization. In the urban cities, coal factories mass hired workers with the goal of selling coal to power steam engines. At the same time, the invention of the steam train allowed for goods to be transported in a manner never seen before by the world.

The underlying idea both videos seems to be that technology encourages efficiency and even economic growth. For example, the seed drill allowed farmers to plant crops more quickly than in the past. As the availability of food increased, the population did as well. This lead to an increased work force, and therefore a larger economy."
