- Student 1:
"To be an effective team member i plan to support my team member to the fullest, put the team first, I have to listen and learn and be positive and respectful.
Four strength that i bring to the team are: i will try to communicate more, everyone should contribute their fair share, good leadership and be organized.
Three weaknesses that i bring to team are that i can be a little shy, I am not very good at public speaking and i lack experience and i strugglr with grammer.
The norms that i would like to see are to be open minded, Treat everyone with courtesy and respect and share more information on a topic. The challenge that i may face is that i may not be communicative as english is not my first language it is a little difficult to communicate sometimes, I plan to ask more question i do not understand what someone is saying."
- Student 2:
"In order to be an effective team member I plan on utilizing communication channels, and being available to my teammates daily. I will always listen to what my teammates have to say and plan on thoroughly explaining myself and ideas to the group effectively.
My greatest skill is finishing work in a timely manner, and not leaving my group waiting on me until the last minute. My second strength is being flexible when choosing meeting times, topics, or even dividing out work. I am always willing to compromise so no team member is doing something the absolutely dread, and that makes for a happy group which means better work/research done. Third, I have great organization skills while help me be a good team leader. Fourth, I have great communication styles, and I am very open with my teammates regarding work related aspects of class.
Three weaknesses I bring to a team are collaboration because I am prone to dividing and conquering mostly because everyone works at different speeds and in different ways. My second weakness is preferring to work individually rather than in a group setting which doesn't work well with research based group projects. My third weakness is wanting things to be done a specific way in order to increase timeliness within a group, as stated previously, not everyone works that same way.
Norms that I would like to see within my team is hard-work and overall appreciation of each other. Each person is going to put an extreme amount of energy and time into this 8-week course so its important to validate each other, and make sure that everyone knows that their work is valued. In most group settings, problems will incur, but it is important to maintain a professional attitude and work through each individually with an open mind."
- Student 3:
"What I plan to be an effective team member is to communicate with my group. I plan to answer text messages and emails within 12 hours of being sent. I plan to do my part and do the best I can. I will ask for help if I need it and make sure I understand everything clearly.
One of my strengths is that I'm organized. I like to color coordinate and make sure everything is clear and nicely organized. My second strength is that I am good at communicating and making sure I let my group know if I'm not available. Another strength is that I do my work before the deadline when I work with groups because I don't like it when others wait for my work to be done. My fourth strength is that I make sure I understand the assignment. If I need to, I print out the instruction and highlight the important stuff and write notes.
One of my weaknesses is that I don't really speak up and if I see someone not doing their work, I don't tell them to do it and most likely I will end up completing it. My second weakness is that I don't add my ideas first. I hear others' ideas first and then I add my mind to make sure I'm not wrong. My third weakness is that I don't ask for help.
The norms I like to see in my team are to be respectful and work together. Keep in mind that we all have different schedules but still try to make a time work. Make sure that the work is done by the deadline, so we don't waste time.
A challenge that I anticipate in working with my team is that we all have different schedules. How we can address it is by making sure we can all might at a certain time and not changing it all the time."
