SCENARIO: The manufacturing cost of the widgets your company makes has dropped by 50%. One of your customers, Sam, tells you he knows this because he is best friends with your company's VP of production and asks you for a discount on his order. Your boss okays the discount. Your other customer, Sue (who is one of your best friends and knows nothing about the fall in manufacturing costs), places the exact same order for widgets as Sam. Do you offer her a similar discount? Do you tell her about the fall in manufacturing costs? You are placed in the same situation as you continue working and know that you may pocket the difference between the actual cost of the widgets and the discount. You could make a lot of money on the side if you pocket the discount. QUESTIONS: 1. Analyze the scenario. First, describe at least ONE philosophy, theory, or approach discussed in class applicable to the scenario. Second, tell me what ethical or other issues arise from the scenario. (5 marks) 2. Based on your analysis, tell me what decision you would make in each scenario. You will need to give me reasons for your answer. (5 marks) 3. Discuss the likely impact that your decision will have on the business and the specific parties involved in the scenario
