Researchers can use qualitative case study methods to perform in-depth investigations of complex phenomena in a specific environment. This article gives a methodical step-by-step strategy to doing a case study in the business discipline, with a focus on research students. While working on their final dissertation, research students in this area encounter challenges in terms of clarity, selection, and operationalization of qualitative case studies. These challenges frequently result in ambiguity, the waste of valuable time, and poor decisions that have an impact on the research's final results. The foundation phase, prefield phase, field phase, and reporting phase are all included in this article's checklist. The goal of this paper is to equip novice researchers with a practical application of this checklist by connecting all four phases with the authors' experiences and learning from in-depth numerous case studies in New Zealand companies that were recently completed.
