His neighbour, Jeff, was having weed problems and decided to use a strong but illegal herbicide. He was aware that Peter sold his apples but Jeff suspected that Peter's apples caused his weed problems. A month later, the food safety authorities discovered traces of the herbicide on the apples sold and have now banned Peter and Jeff's other neighbours from selling apples for this season. Peter complained that his apples were fine (since none of his customers have fallen ill), but the authorities insist that they must stop all of Jeff's neighbours from selling their apples just in case consumers may become ill from the illegal herbicide.
