Mary has done some research and consulted with appropriate people in the community and within the service. She has researched what food the children can and cannot eat and has discussed it with the cook. Mary has decided to look at all areas of practice in the room, ensuring a respectful and inclusive environment is being created. Mary has decided to plan a group experience to discuss the different cultural food requirements of the children within the room. Mary is aiming to support all children to work towards having a strong sense of identity and being connected with and contributing to their world. Mary starts the group time by discussing that everyone has similarities and difference and that is what makes everyone special. She then discusses that some children are unable to eat certain foods. Explaining that there are many reasons why, they might not like the food, they might be allergic, they might have special beliefs. To engage the children, she asks them if they have any questions or comments.
