First can you tell me what objectives you have in building this cabin? Let's start out with some easy objectives. I presume you have an objective for when this cabin needs to be completed. Can you tell me what that date is? I need to be able to use it by the Friday before Labor Day. Can you define what completed means to you? It should be built with all utilities connected, appliances installed and furniture and other items in the cabin. I assume you have another objective regarding cost. How much do you want to spend on the cabin? I'd like to spend less than $150,000. FYI, the land has already been purchased, it will need to be leveled before construction can begin and the cabin should be a single level, slab on grade construction with utilities embedded in the slab. Does the $150,000 include the cost of appliances? Yes. Does the $150,000 include the cost of furniture? No. Can you tell me a little more about the cabin? If you were to tell someone about your cabin, can you tell me one thing that you want to say about it? I guess I would like them to think of the ambiance. What do you mean by ambiance? By that I mean that I want people to recall seeing the beauty of the location from either inside the cabin or from the porch. So, you want the cabin to have a porch, can you tell me more about the porch? Yes, I would like the cabin to have a porch which covers the length of the front of the Cabin and is 4 feet deep. Is there anything else you can tell me about the porch? Yes, a great porch has a porch swing, so it should have a swing. Is there anything else you can tell me about the porch? Since the porch is on the front of the cabin and the entrance door is there, it would be great to have two dimmable porch lights. Is there anything else you can tell me about the porch? Not that I can think of now. Can you tell me what you mean by seeing the beauty from inside the cabin? Of course, I would like at least one window view from the grand room that is large enough to see the scenery and a couple additional windows in the grand room by the kitchen area and of course one window in the bedroom. Do four total windows? Yes. Can you be more specific about the size of the windows? I would think that 48 x 36 would be sufficient for grand room and 24 or 36 x 36 for other windows. Is there anything else that speaks of ambiance to you? Yes, I also consider an indoor fireplace in the grand room would add ambiance to the cabin. Is there anything else that speaks of ambiance to you? Yes, there should be nice siding on the cabin and the porch should be made of TREK wood. Is there anything more that speaks of ambiance to you? Not of which I can think. Back to the question of if you were to tell someone about your cabin, can you tell me another characteristic that you would want to say? I guess I would like them to think of the cabin as being spacious, even though the cabin is only 20x24 on the inside, I want them to think of it as seeming bigger than it is. It should have a 4ft wide Entrance door which comes in from the porch directly into Grand room. In addition to what you just listed; how else do you think that can be accomplished? First, I think there would be a grand room which would encompass the kitchen, dining and living room area. How much of the area would you expect it to be? 14 x 20. Do you have any other requirements for cabin in regard to space? Yes, I would like room for overnight stays. This would mean a separate bedroom and room in the grand room for a futon in the grand room. Can you tell me more specifics about the bedroom? Yes, like the bedroom to be a separate area which is at least 8x10 and have a built-in closet. Do you see the closet having a door and if so what kind of door? Yes, the closet should have a door and I think a bifold door and the closet should have place to hang clothes and also have shelves. Is there anything else that defines spacious for you? Yes, I would like to have a kitchen in an area of the grand room that would allow for 3 countertops with at least five upper and three lower and three drawers, as well as a cabinet for the sink in the bathroom which again is separated from the bedroom and grand room. Would the bathroom and bedroom have doors? Yes. Would pocket doors help give the cabin a better feeling of being spacious or should we stick with regular doors or no doors? Pocket doors sound like a very good idea. Is there anything more that defines spacious for you? I guess I would like them to think of the cabin as providing creature comforts. How do you think that can be accomplished? First, I think there would be a cabin would be well insulated and second that it would have an HVAC that provides both heating and cooling, third it would have an indoor toilet and hot and cold running water. Does anything else say creature comforts to you? Not right now. Back to the question of if you were to tell someone about your cabin, can you tell me another characteristic that you would want to say? I guess I would like them to think of the cabin in addition to providing creature comforts it offers modern amenities. How do you think that can be accomplished? First, the cabin would have a kitchen area with a refrigerator, stove/oven, microwave, dishwasher and a something that could be used to wash & dry clothes, but this needs to be done in a small footprint. Would a stackable washer/dryer combo work for this? Yes, Does anything else say creature comforts to you? Yes, now that you mention it, I would like to be able to have connectivity to television, phone and internet services. Can you tell me more such as how many about this requirement? I'd want to have at least one phone jack in the bedroom, along with two TV jacks. I'd want three TV jacks in the Grand room along with a connection for the internet modem there. What do you see in regard to flooring? The Grand room should have a wood floor, the bathroom a tile floor and the bedroom a carpeted floor . Does anything more say creature comforts to you? Not right now. Can you tell me your requirements for quality? For example, do you feel that you should have top of the line appliances and woodwork? Not really, I am more concerned with cost and functionality than quality of appliances or woodwork. But having said that, I don't want the cabin to seem low quality or poorly made or have appliances that break. How do will you determine that? Well first, Appliances should meet minimum quality specifications and the cabin would have to pass all governmental inspections and second and more importantly, it will need to pass my inspection. Do you have any other objectives for this cabin? Not any other objectives but maybe some additional requirements, such as the rooms would all be painted as would the ceiling. Do you have any other thoughts on the cabin? Yes, there should be plenty of lights in the kitchen and grand room. Can you define the quantity of lights you would like? Probably 9 overhead lights in the grand room plus a big light fixture. Maybe 6 overhead lights in the kitchen along with a light over the sink. One overhead light fixture in the bedroom and a light overhead in the bathroom along with a light by the mirror over the bathroom sink. Do you have any other requirements for this cabin?
