Callable and Convertible Bonds:

Hi I had a question about convertible bonds

In my problem I issued $400,000 bonds at a premium of $20,000 (400, $1,000 bonds). I am going to call back $200,000 worth of those bonds and convert the remaining $200,000 into 1,000 shares of common stock with a par value of $100.

I'm not sure how to make the journal entry for convertible bonds

DR CR
Bonds payable (400,000*1/2) 200,000
Premium on Bonds payable ($20,000*1/2) 10,000
Common Stock (1000*$100) 100,000

The journal is not balanced and I'm not sure if the entries are correct.

Also if we had a discount instead of $20,000 how would I balance and create the entries to convert the stock into common stock

DR CR
Bonds payable 200,000
Common stock 100,000
Discount on bonds payable 10,000

Thank you!
