Little Finance is a mid-sized financial services company who have discovered that they have been subject to a data spill, where the past three years of client financial data (2600+ clients) has been made publicly available on the internet. The technical firm has managed to contain the spill and all records are now secure again. It is unknown if they had been accessed by unauthorised people during the time they were publicly available.

They have hired Orange Communications to handle the next steps.

Your task:

Identify any reporting requirements and/or obligations which need to be undertaken if this needs to be reported to any authority write a brief to the client explaining who needs to report and what they need to report (see Office of Information Commissioner Links to an external site.site or other relevant information source).

Put together a communication plan with the following supporting communication types:

A draft email and social media post which is focussed on the clients of Little Finance (you determine the social media channel/s which this will be utilised justify this choice in the communication plan the social media post is required to be audio-visual)

A draft email explaining to staff what has happened and what the next steps are

A script to give staff members who may be asked questions about the event, include advice on tone and body language associated with the script

The portfolio should be presented as a series of documents including a press release. The press release should be addressed to the client and give a brief overview of what you are recommending, what the next steps are, and how you have prepared these actions.

There are seven elements which need to be submitted as part of the portfolio:

A press release

Brief outlining Little Finance obligations,

A communication plan

Email and social media post (external client facing)

Email to staff explaining the situation (internal document)

Script to give staff in relation to the event (internal document)

Be as creative as possible when attempting this assessment and you are free to use news items involving data spills you may find online or provided below to generate ideas.
