Can give a response to this, what do you think? Your perspective. Is the biggest impact of state regulation within the insurance market is the attempt to inform and protect consumers due to the complexity of insurance agreements. State regulations are designed to protect consumers from unfair and misleading provisions. State insurance regulations correlate with federal financial regulation. One similarity is that state insurance regulators set standards for risk-based capital. Essentially, these protect an insurer from becoming insolvent. The Federal Government has similar regulations for the banking sector. Another comparison is that insurers must submit annual reports to help determine if an insurance company is in a stable position or not. A lot of the regulations are designed to protect consumers and society as a whole should there be another economic downturn. I believe that state insurance regulations are more than enough and there is no need for any further federal regulation. Most states have similar insurance standards, with major insurance companies working in multiple states. I also believe that any federal action would eventually lead to higher premiums. With states left to govern themselves and multiple insurance companies in the market, premiums remain competitive.
