However,thiswasnotthebesttimetobeadepartmentstore.Salesandprofitswereunder pressurefromtheseeminglyinexorableriseofinternetshoppingandfickleconsumer spending.Amazonnowseemsdeterminedtosellanythingtoanyoneandhasmoved upmarketandorganicandintobricksandmortarwiththepurchaseofWholefoodsin2017.Costsarealsospirallingwithminimumwagesandlivingwagestopayandbusiness commercialratesrisingfastandforcingmanyoffthehighstreet.
