1--- There are five developments that have significantly influenced the landscape of marketing on a global level throughout the last decade (Kerin & Hartley, 2017). First is economic protectionism by individual counties, second is economic integration among countries, third is global competition among global companies for global consumers, fourth is the presence of a network global marketspace, and fifth is growing prevalence of economic espionage (Kerin & Hartley, 2017, p. 152).

According to an article found on Business Insider, McDonalds has more than 36,000 locations in over 100 countries (Matousek, 2018). However, many of those locations greatly differ from one another. Not only does the atmosphere look and feel different, but the food and beverage options on the menu are also different.

McDonalds in the United States originally made a name with menu items such as the Big Mac, but McDonalds in Singapore offers options like the Nasi Lemak burger (Matousek, 2018). While the Big Mac in the US includes two beef patties, pickles, lettuce, onions, American cheese, three slices of a sesame seed bun, and special Big Mac sauce, the Nasi Lemak burger in Singapore includes a coconut-flavored chicken patty, fried egg, cucumber slices, caramelized onions, and semolina buns (Matousek, 2018). In addition, the Nasi Lemak burger is usually eaten for breakfast, while the Big Mac is usually eaten for lunch or dinner. Another interesting food item available in Singapores McDonalds is Chicken McCrispy (fried chicken in the US) and Crisscut Fries (also known as waffle fries) (Matousek, 2018).

It takes a lot of thought and planning when a company works internationally in order to develop cost-effective marketing strategies that can capture the audience on a regional level as well. Working at MAC Cosmetics we produce global makeup collections which we ship all over the world and are available in every retail counter but we also product-specific regional collections that are relevant to their specific shoppers and holidays. When creating these launches we really tap into the market to help guide us on what their region is looking for. We use imagery that reflects their consumers, we create colors and shade ranges that are popular within their market and make sure we are creating complementary looks to whatever is trending at the time. A specific example of this is we are currently working on a Lunar New Year collection focused on the year of the Tiger which will launch in APAC in January. These colors were chosen specifically for the spring Asian consumer and the packaging is inspired by the holiday. It's always a very exciting collection and it always sells out since it's limited edition.
