Generally, charitable contributions made by businesses cannot exceed 10% of their taxable income, for a given year. However, the excess can be carried over, up to five years. For a C corporation, the deduction cannot be more than 15% of their taxable income. Due to COVID-19 and the CARES Act, for all corporations the new percentage is 25%. There does not need to be a relation between the donation and COVID-19. There were many businesses and organizations assisting one another last year.
