Can you help me prepare a 2-3-page business report (single spaced) in which I am analyzing my leadership strengths and develop a statement of who I am as a leader. I need help in putting it all together. I am basically someone who is timid but willing the go the extra mile to keep learning and doing more. I am dedicated and eager to move ahead.

Collecting Feedback From People:

If you choose, you can collect valuable feedback about your strengths through others.

The questions you should ask are:

  • Who am I when I am at my best?
  • Can you provide a specific example of a time when I was at my best?

1) Who am I when I'm at my best?

You are at your best when you are surrounded by like minded individuals who share your thirst for knowledge, creativity, and growth. You thrive in positive environments that encourage you to challenge yourself.

Can you provide a specific time when I was at my best?

I see you like this often. You are at your best when you have the necessary space to be productive. You're achievement driven, and when you've had enough rest and your mind is clear, it's very evident in both your behavior and your workflow. I've seen you this way on days when your caseload is heavy, yet you still get everything done with time to spare, go to the gym, and make dinner. I've seen it when you're completely nervous about presentations yet you find your confidence and still end up doing amazing. I've seen it when you spend qualitytime with your family as well. If they're happy then you're happy. This entire year you've been at your best; enrolling in school and doing amazing at work. You've been really pushing yourself to grow and succeed and it's working for you. I'm proud of you. It's hard to pick one specific time because you always try to put your best foot forward. You always find time to be a great friend as well, and are at your best giving advice and talking through problems/solutions.

2) Here are my responses for these 2 questions.

  1. Who am I when I am my best?
    1. I think when you are at your best is when you're engaging to learn in a professional setting. You have a thirst to learn and always do your best. You realize that you won't always do everything right and you have the self-awareness to know that perfection is not reality. However, when you are always learning and pushing yourself to be better all the time, then growth will come and successes will start stacking up.
  2. Can you provide a specific example of a time when I was at my best?
    1. A time I recall is when you were leading a committee and upper leadership didn't project a positive response, were somewhat dismissive and degrading to the project your committee had been working hard on. You reached out to me, we discussed the whole of the issue. I encouraged you, as well as engaging others to support your committee and eventually you all were able to meet with those leaders. You all explained what your committee was trying to do, cleared the air and a path forward and ended up having success. You were at your best in this scenario because of your values and refusal to give up. It then inspired confidence not only for you, but for your entire committee. Standing firm on what you believe is right is never a bad thing. As long as you do it respectfully and if the answer is no, at least you have that dialogue.

3) In my opinion, at your best you are resourceful, calm, and professional. You are approachable, empathetic, and always willing to evaluate the different scenarios I have presented to you both professionally and personally.

A specific time you were at your best was when we presented our psychological safety presentation to leadership. Although it was an unpleasant situation you remained cool, calm, and collective. You displayed professionalism and carried on with our presentation despite the awkward response we received from leadership.
