Hello class and Professor,

Reflecting on Dr. Steinberg's insights, the two people I choose to analyze a bit are my mother and my father.

Let's start with my mom, who's the natural leader in our household. She's got this innate ability to lead and inspire others, and you can see it in her genes. She is very organized as well and always likes to be on time. She's a real A personality. Her childhood definitely nurtured and amplified these qualities. She has told me stories and I know she grew up in a family that was incredibly supportive of her. These environmental factors must've affected, and that must be why she's the leader she is today. She works at a company she's been at since I was little, and she is the boss. She is a really good boss too, people like her and look up to her.

Now, let's talk about my dad. He's got that same genetic potential for leadership, but the environment he grew up in was quite different. His family and educational experiences didn't provide the same kind of support and encouragement for leadership development that my mom's did. Unfortunately the stories he told me are all sad. His mom died at a young age and he was only 11 or 12. He went into foster care which is where a lot of the sad stories come into play. He has the genetic ability to be a leader. I see it in him, but not many others do. He works from home currently and is not a leader in any way.

This is all just like Dr. Steinberg was saying in the video, it shouldn't really be nature vs nurture, because in reality both play a really big part in who we are going to become. Both are significant. My parents both have the genetic makeup to be leaders but they grew up in different environments and encountered different situations and that made a difference on who they ended up as. My father's personality is more like he is out for himself and not there for anyone else. He pretends not to care, and many think he doesn't. He is pretty good at holding in his emotions, unless he is angry, then he will show you he's angry. He does care about others and he attempts to lead people but it comes off more as bossy or controlling. He just doesn't use his leadership qualities the right way. My mom, on the other hand, she is always making sure everyone else is okay, and that they know what the game plan is. She keeps everyone on track. She was taught how to use her quality of leadership and shows it daily. The main cause that one is a leader and one is not seems to be the environments they grew up in, and the way they were brought up.
