can you help me respond to positively only to this class discussion?

Hello Class!

I hope everyone is having a good week so far. Nature versus nurture is a topic I find intriguing. Interestingly, someone can have the genetic propensity to be/act a certain way. As Dr. Steinberg discussed in the video, our environment is what ultimately flips that switch on or off. This topic on leadership is ironic because I just finished Airmen Leadership School for the Air Force and just pinned Staff Sergeant. My time in the Air Force has shown me who is a good leader and who is not. My former supervisor from when I was an Airmen First Class is a prime example of a person who is born to lead. They had confidence and were very social with all their airmen. He always had an open mindset and constantly learning. He always took time out of his day to get to know those under his charge. Made sure that morale was good in the flight. Guided us where we needed to go and helped us set our own goals. Made us feel like we had a purpose in the Air Force. I consider him a mentor and I ask for his advice to this day.

I have also worked with someone who is not a good leader. This person was pessimistic and had a bad attitude to the point where it brought the entire team down. Misery loves company. He always took shortcuts and was genuinely lazy when it came to work. Many of us on the team had to pick up his slack and finish 12 hours' worth of work on top of doing our own work.

People don't have to be born with the leadership skills engrained in their DNA. Honestly, leadership is a learned trait that is cultivated over time. That is what I have learned from the military. It is like lifting weights, no one starts out lifting heavy weights in the gym. You gradually increase the weight when you consistently work at it.
