Malaysia Airlines
Malaysia Airlines is owned by individual investors and the Malaysian government, which took over the company in 2014 after two mysterious jet crashes. The airline has lost money and struggled since that time, going through three CEOs. The current CEO, Peter Bellew, is experienced in tourism and travel and has been asked to cut costs and increase revenues. His strategy is to maximize the number of Malaysian Muslims (who make up more than 60 percent of the population) flying to Mecca for hajj, the annual holy pilgrimage and an obligation for all Muslims who are well enough to travel and can afford the trip. Bellew plans to provide charter flights to make the pilgrimage easier on travelers.
Critical Thinking Describe the passenger stakeholder claims on Malaysia Airlines. Describe the government stakeholder claims on Malaysia Airlines.
My answers:
Part1
The article I chose for this week is called "Who's Responsible? The Role of Stakeholders in Promoting Ethical Business Practices" written by van Maanen, Victoria. In this article, the author states that a business's intangible assets such as reputation and branding can be damaged by unethical behaviors, and she also discusses the role of corporate social responsibility and its link with business ethics (Victoria, 2018). The author then analyzes the influence of different stakeholders including management executives, consumers, employees, investors and the government. She points out that CEOs can represent a business with their values but this might lead to the "greenwashing" situation, and she uses the example of Volkswagen to explain the "greenwashing" (Victoria, 2018). She also mentions that the confusing label of the products can mislead customers, and the regulations from the government are also important for a business to behave ethically (Victoria, 2018).
There is one ethical problem that brought to my attention named "greenwashing". This term can be interpreted that a business's practices do not meet the expectations of its claim. The business should implement its corporate social responsibility in a good faith to embrace long-term constructive effects rather than merely use it for public relations, and the stakeholders should also consider the long-term effects that CSRs can bring to the business, society and the environment(Byars & Stanberry, 2018). I myself agree with the idea that a business should conduct its claimed CSRs in a real and effective way. The "greenwashing" can damage the reputation of a business, which should be avoided. In conclusion, CSRs are beneficial for a business's long-term development and growth.

Part2
After reading the Malaysia Airline case, I think that the passenger stakeholders claim the need for more safe and affordable flights to make the trips, and the government stakeholders claim the need to increase the revenue and cut the costs.
