Assignment:

We will look at a very creative and artistic side of geometry called tessellations.

As you create your tessellations, think about how this relates to the transformations we did last week. Are they similar? These are a combination of functions and geometry! (If you have kids, this is a fun activity to do with them!)

Second, visit each of these sites and create some practice tessellations to get the hang of what they are doing. Experiment!

Now you get to be creative!

• Post 1: make tessellation by hand using any form of media. You can make one from wood shapes, plastic blocks such as Legos, paper and pencil, or even guiding a friend/child through doing one! The main requirement is that it is a tessellation meaning a repeated interlocking pattern as shown in the reading, website and through the videos below. The second requirement is if you doing tessellation by hand, it cannot be just a repeating regular geometric shape, such as squares, triangles, parallelograms, etc. You must have altered a regular geometric shape to get your tessellation. If you are doing yours with blocks or other media, you may use regular geometric shapes, but you cannot simply use the same shape over and over. You must use at least two different shapes to interlock. It's a challenge! Be sure you have a true tessellation based on the readings and videos.
