A project manager should always display professionalism at all times. Sometimes when you work so closely with customers the lines of familiarity and professionalism can become blurred. Leaders should always maintain a good relationship between leaders and their teams and following ethical standards to help prevent conflict is key. As a project manager you never want to let that happen. Same goes for clients, as a matter of fact, anything done outside of an already signed and established contract should be seen as unethical to the project manager. For example, as a project manager you are working on a project, and you complete the project, and the client is so impressed that he rewards you with a huge bonus on top of your already agreed upon salary. Well, this should be seen as unethical to the project manager. There is so much liability behind doing or taking anything outside of contract. Even if the client seems extremely generous and genuine with their reward in that moment it can backfire later. Also, accepting these types of rewards can cause a person to become entitled to or express how they feel you owe them a favor. It can also cause drama with the team if word got out that more money was made but not distributed (depending on the project). It's important to remain ethical at all costs to avoid future costs.
If this were the same example from a Christian view, the answer would be the same. We as believers must remain integral at all times. However, when we see it from a Christians world view, not only is it about remaining honest amongst your peers but you have to first and foremost remain honest knowing that our God our Father in heaven sees and hears all things, and if you are a follower of Christ then you seek to live how He did, and we all know Jesus was an honest man. Doing so I believe you will see the blessings of the Lord, greater rewards then man can give.
