You can look at your past experiences to determine a more effective, efficient, and better way of accomplishing the tasks on the project.

What are best practices for working effectively and efficiently in a project team environment?

The best practices are having a complete understanding of everyone's role on a project team. If you understand the roles of each team member, I think the project would run effectively and efficiently. At the beginning of the project, the roles should be clearly defined and make sure everyone has a complete understanding of what is at stake when working in a group on a project. Having communication throughout the whole project, it can provide immediate feedback if a problem arises or help with determining a solution. Along with communication, you should provide deadlines for each phase of the project. The planning phase is an important part when working in a team environment.
