I have selected three theories for my assignment. The first theory is the Scientific Management Theory. It involves assigning tasks to workers based on their natural skill set, monitoring their performance, and appropriately dividing workloads between workers and managers. The second theory I have chosen is the Theory of Servant Leadership, which is a leadership style based on the desire to serve and give to the community. This style emphasizes engagement through collaboration and opposes the belief that leadership is defined as hierarchical, patriarchal, and related to wealth or status. Lastly, the Transactional Leadership theory utilizes rewards and punishments to motivate employees. In my previous work experience in childcare, I noticed a high turnover rate due to micro-management and below-average pay. However, the teachers loved their job and being able to make a difference in children's lives. I believe that implementing the Transactional Leadership theory could motivate employees to stay longer by offering bonuses or rewards for their extended tenure. Also, the Scientific Management theory will work in this setting because, at times, due to short staff, I have seen co-workers who are naturally great with infants and toddlers be placed in a room with preschoolers and vice versa.
