COLLAPSE
After reading chapter 2, I found the example of Big Brother-ism that I found most interesting and the most dangerous was the You Pay for the Mike, We'll Just Listen In story. It deals with using cell phone microphones to listen in on conversations of people of interest. Mostly criminals and suspected terrorist to get information to catch them. I find that this could be dangerous because if the FBI always has access to the microphones, what is keeping criminals and hackers from doing the same to find their next targets. They could use the conversations to find when we will be away from our homes for an extended time and break into our houses.
When it comes to my digital footprint, I honestly dont really pay attention to what I do. I rarely use social media, I typically only use my phone for calling, texting, banking, and emails. I use my computer for either school or gaming. The main thing I notice from my footprint would be the personally targeted ads. Almost everyday after work Ill see an ad for something I was talking about at work. This is a little bothersome to me. I understand that its a way to show me the stuff Im interested in, but why are these apps using my microphone. I believe that they think this technology is a good thing, which in some cases it is, but at some point, this could be dangerous. This exact example is why I am majoring in Cybersecurity.
When it comes to the documentary Mostly Human it was very eye opening. I actually watched this documentary in my Database Fundamentals class last semester and had to write my thoughts about it. As I said in that post, I had no idea that social media sites had this technology. The messages that I could leave my family would be a good idea. I did have an issue with the thought of having Happy Birthday post sent to my family and friends every year after my death. This would affect me mentally if someone did that to me. I would be afraid to have the app act as me because in the video it demonstrated that the AI started to get its own personality and I wouldnt want anyone believing that the way the app is acting is how I actually was.
