Canada has done a great deal to try to combat racism. Despite all Canada's efforts however, it has become clear that combatting racism is, unfortunately, very much like playing a game of whack-a-mole. Legal mechanisms can help us stop or ban specific forms and instances of racism, but even the law cannot make racism simply go away.
There is a new forum for racism to take hold in our digital, automated worlds. We must do everything we can to gain (and teach!) digital literacy and to combat the integration of biased, automated decision-making mechanisms into our everyday lives. It matters who is seen and who gets counted, and bias in data will continue to have a disproportionately negative impact on communities that are already marginalized.
Explain what this all means, why it matters and what can be done? Be sure to rely onwhat you have learned from course materials, concepts and discussions. Use examples to help illustrate your arguments.
