Carbon monoxide and hydrogen react in a catalytic reactor to form methanol. The
process is recirculation, given that the conversion per step is only 14%. The outlet stream of the reactor is 551.33 mol/h and contains 27.14% in moles of CO,54.29% of H2, a 14.15% of N2 and 4.41% of CH3OH. Due to the low conversion in the reactor, the output stream is passed to a condenser in which all the methanol formed is separated in a liquid state for give the flow of products. The other current that leaves the condenser is in the gas phase and it contains all the CO, H2 and N2 that has left the reactor. This stream is divided into two fractions: one gives place to the purge current, and the other to the recirculation current. This current is incorporated in the fresh feed stream with a ratio of 5 mol recirculation/1 mol feed
fresh, to give the feed that enters the reactor, determines:
a) The flow diagram of the process and the components involved in each stream.
b) The molar flow and composition of the total feed to the reactor.
c) The molar flow and the composition of the fresh feed.
d) The global conversion.
e) The purge percentage.
