carcinogenic diocytlphthalate (DOP). The reaction for manufacture of DOTP
is performed in two steps, first step is fast with formation of mono octyl
terephthalate (MOTP). The second step is slow in which 2-ethyl hexanol
(EH) reacts with monooctyl terephthalate to give dioctylterephthalate. It is
decided to set up a plant to manufacture 5 million Ib per annum of DOTP.
MOTP+EH DOTP
Conditions:
FMOTP=0.2FEH
a. If the volume of CSTR used is 1250gal, estimate the conversion of MOTP.
b. What steps can be taken to increase the conversion of the reaction
c. If you employ second CSTR in series, what volume will be required to obtain
a conversion of 60%?
d. What will the volume of PFR be to achieve a conversion of 60% in single
reactor?
