Career counseling with diverse populations requires that counselors be culturally competent, including understanding how culture and gender may impact the work environment and work-related activities. A career counselor must be willing to explore barriers, prejudices, discrimination, and inequality to assist clients in obtaining their career goals and career wellness. • Provide a summary of the client (Douglas) and the client's presenting problem.
• Address how the client is impacted by ethnicity, spirituality, sexuality, age, class, disability, and gender in his current occupation and when making career decisions.
• Discuss two to three (2-3) strategies that a culturally sensitive counselor might use to assist this client in meeting his career goals.
• Describe one career theory that aligns with the client's career journey.
