The side effects of the new compound are not yet known so the drug company sponsors a trial to give a small number of healthy people the drug. 15. What Phase of clinical trial is this? The drug has advanced to a randomized control trial against a placebo to see the effect of the drug on halting the progression of Parkinsonian symptoms. A study is conducted by the lead researcher who randomly sorts 100 patients into the drug arm (n=50) and the placebo arm (n=50) of the study.
