Case Analysis Background

You are interested in perceptions and levels of awareness of environmental issues among students of the University of the West Indies. There are numerous environmental challenges which persist. Most of these challenges are related to the exponential growth of human populations and the unsustainable demand for and use of resources. Recycling assists in overcoming these environmental challenges. It incorporates management strategies which help minimize mans negative impact on his environment and incorporate more sustainable utilisation of available resources. Recycling may be defined in many ways but for the purposes of this report, the most basic understanding of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle (the three Rs) was utilised.

You conducted a survey where, qualitative and quantitative techniques were utilised by the Graduate students of the Centre for Resource Management and Environmental Studies (CERMES) University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus to determine the level of awareness of recycling among the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences compared to the other faculties. The data gathered will be analysed using the features of Microsoft Office Excel (particularly pivot tables and charts). A rating system was established as an analytical tool. A maximum number of points were awarded per questionnaire from which percentage awareness was determined per individual. Finally, conclusions will be drawn for each faculty.
