Case Background:
You work in Social Media as a consultant. You are working on a new report to examine trends in Social Media usage and age. You conducted a survey of 1072 people randomly selected in the United States (you limited minimum age to 12). The file "Usagef22.xlsx" has results of the survey. For each Social Media platform you have a 0/1 variable indicating whether or not the person said they used the platform in the last 6 months. For each of those variables, 1 means the person did use the platform in the last 6 months and 0 means they did not. You also have the age of each respondent calculated based on birth date (so 43.56 means the individual is 43.56 years old). There are two additional variables:
Young adult: 1=respondent is under 35; 0=respondent is 35 or over.
Platforms Used: The total number of Social Media platforms used in the last 6 months. Questions 1 . using histogram of age (and calculate any necessary statistics).Which of the following best describes the distribution of age (check all that apply):
Select one or more:
a.Age is definitely not normally distributed.
b.A large majority of respondents are over 55.
c.The average respondent age was over 35 years old.
d.Age is skewed right.
e.The median age is more than 10 years higher than the mean age.
f.Age is approximately normally distributed.
2. What is the mean age of respondents?
3. What is the standard deviation of respondents age (round to two sig. digits after the decimal)?
4. Assuming the sample is a random sample of the U.S. population, what is the upper bound of the 95% confidence interval for the average age in the U.S?
5. Based on your 95% confidence interval, what is the margin of error regarding average age?
6. Using a graph or pivot table, examine the average number of platforms used (variable: Platforms Used) by age category (variable: Young Adult)? Based on this information alone (no need to perform hypothesis test), does it appear that younger adults use more platforms?
Select one:
a. It appears that older adults use more platforms.
b. It appears that younger adults use more platforms.
c. The mean number of platforms appear to be exactly the same.
