CASE Bronco's Winery is a leading manufacturer and distributor of red fruited wine in Jamaica. The wine is made from local and imported material and is distilled to peak perfection, making strong competition to brands such as Red Label Wine. Bronco's Winery's peak season for manufacturing is 3 months before the festive months of the Easter and Christmas periods. After manufacturing, the finished goods are stored in a single 10,000 square foot open warehouse with no fixtures, which is serviced by a FIFO floor plan design. However, Bronco's management has realized that their annual inventory costs have risen significantly of the last three financial quarters. Moreover, having conducted an audit of their warehouse operations the following outcomes were observed; . Numerous amounts of SKU's of Bronco's finished products are often damaged by the stowage of pallets loads on top of each other, also the goods are handled by a hand truck which was not intended for this type of operations. . Small shipments of wine for distribution are often lost in the warehouse causing delivery schedules at the loading dock to be severely disrupted. . During the off peak season the warehouse still has a large volume of finished goods which are significantly driving up monthly carrying costs.
