Case II: Qualitative Research class Assignment: Comment on the following research proposal Over 85% of Ethiopia's population of close to 80 million lives in its rural areas, gaining their livelihood directly or indirectly from agricultural sector. Per capita income growth and food security are thus highly dependent on agriculture. The reason for continued prevalence of poverty with such magnitude is generally associated with low growth, low productivity of subsistence agriculture and a reliance on rainfed cultivation vulnerable to the various weather conditions. Problems are aggravated by the country's rugged terrain, its uneven geographic distribution of population and the predominance of isolated rural settlements with poor spatial integration. Isolation and unreliable or nonexistent access to markets stifles economic activity and further adds to the rural poverty burden {Daniel Gebru and Alemgena, Araya 2016]. Many farmers in Ethiopia are live in every difficult situation rural loan access, finance access which has always caused them untold suffering and living under poor condition. This situation has been attributed to low agricultural productivity of farmers, increase rural urban migration, and also caused for poor standards of living because they have not potential to pay the loan and not acquired the required agricultural inputs like improved seeds and fertilizers which increases agricultural output and secured livelihood of them. Besides that many farmers blame poor standard of living and low agricultural productivity, yet they willing to cultivate commercialized and market oriented crops which attribute for improvement of their living standards. This suggested a need to carryout thorough studies on the situation the of farmers and try to address their difficulty situation and to comment if any additional thing is to be done to help them out is the main aim of this study. The reason that district will selected due to have no the research conducted on the impact of MFI {ACSI} on living standard and poverty alleviation of farmers in the dejen district. Therefore, the present study access the impact of loan ,saving of MFI and other factors those affect the living standard and poverty reduction of farmers' in dejen district. The general objective of the study is to investigate the impact of MFI on the living standard and poverty reduction of farmers in case of Amhara credit and saving institutionlACSl] at dejen branch. The Specific objectives include To evaluate how the MFI (ACSU influences the economy of farmers at dejen district. To point out the significance of the provision of MFI (ASCI) service to brake grinding cycle of poverty. To assess the role of MFI [ACSI] service on the living standard improvement of rural people. To give policy recommendation The study will use primary data. The sample frame of the study is the whole population found in the list of ACSI in the dejen district .dejen district has 19 kebeles in total and 17 of them are rural whereas 2 of them are in urban. The numbers of kebeles involved in the credit and saving services are 17 from rural and 2 from urban areas the sample size will determine by using Godden {2004] formula. pqzW/uhz Where n: is the total sample size; p: is the sample proportion; q: is {1pl, u: is the acceptable error term, that is {0.05}; 2: 1.95 when confidence interval is 95%. Based on the formula, 12:) respondents will be used. The data will be distributed randomly. The study will use logit model with the dependent variable poverty and independent variable includes age, sex, participant of MFI or not and income. Case lll: Given the following research title: "Factors affecting loan repayment performance of small holder farmers: The case of ACSI\" answer the following questions a} Write the statement of the problem (write only half a page} b} Write objectives of the study (write at least 2 specific objectives} cl Unit of analysis {write only 1line] d} Type of data [write only 1 line} e] Population (write only 1line} f} Sampling techniques {write only 1linel g} Sample size determination [write only 2 line} h} Dependent variable and Independent variables (write only 2 line} i] The characteristics of the dependent variable [write only 1 line} j} The model (write only 1 line} Questions for case 1 and case 2: Comment on the proposals based on the following questions and if you think that the proposal has problem, give your suggestions 1. What could be the possible title of the research? 2. What are the limitations associated with the problem statement? 3. What are your comments with the objectives? 4. Comment on the unit of analysis? If it is wrong, what do you suggest 5. Comment on the sample size determination and sampling technique? 6. Comment on the type of data 7. Comment on the data collection method 8. Comment on the method of analysis 9. Comment on the nature of the dependent variable 10. Could you list possible independent variables 11. Can you draw conceptual framework 12. What are your comments on the model specifications and estimation method? If it is wrong, what do you suggest
